On June 12, 2012, the community of Nahanni Butte was flooded by local rivers which resulted in the Nahanni residents having to be relocated approximately 140 kilometres away to Fort Simpson, NT. The community is a neighbour of the Prairie Creek Mine and Canadian Zinc provided on-the-ground support with our Fort Simpson Office. In addition, the Company partnered with CIBC to create the Nahanni Butte Flood Relief Fund to provide the Nahanni community some financial support for their clean-up and repair needs.

Canadian Zinc Open Golf Tournament
The annual Canadian Zinc Open Golf Tournament started in 2003 and has grown to be one of the largest attended golf events in the Northwest Territories. The tournament takes place over two days in early August and provides a great opportunity for local residence to interact with senior NZC Management.

Nahanni Butte Winterfest
In 2009, Nahanni Butte Dene Band (NBDB) and NZC created an annual winter carnival held each January for the youth of our Project’s nearest community. NBDB named the event “Winterfest” with the slogan “Working Together For Our Youth”. Some of the events included floor hockey, badminton, and dodge ball.

The annual Nahanni Community BBQ provides an outdoor event for Nahanni Butte residents and the occasional Nahanni National Park Reserve visitors.
